It’s as if every time you bought a book at Borders, you were locked into only shelving it in an IKEA bookcase.
I had picked up Cory Doctorow’s short story The Great Big Beautiful Tomrrow at the public library a few weeks back and afterwards was a 2010 speech on Creativity & Copyright. The quote above references the near impossibility for creators to move from one closed ebook system to another and having to either abandon their audience or expect them to purchase another device. In this case a bookshelf reserved and approved for each bookseller.
