Another reason I should read the release notes. I had no idea Dark Mode and Slim Mode were available in Pop!_OS. For all I know they’ve been available from the beginning. 🙂

My new System76 Galago Pro arrived last Friday and I promised to use it for at least a month before typing up a review. So for now here’s a few photos and a list of what I’ve been up to with this new computer.
- Used Libre Office Writer and Calc at the office
- Used Vim and gEdit for extensive coding
- Installed WordPress
- Added Rhythmbox for locally stored music playback
- Copy edited a magazine in Evince
- Tested WordPress 5.0 Release Candidate 3 and filed a bug report
- Spoke at a meetup and presented on WordPress’s new release
- Wrote this quick post 🙂
Solus GNOME vs POP_OS! installed packages
I’ve been on a GNOME kick for a couple months and noticed something about Solus’ spin that surprised me… It’s using far fewer packages than POP_OS!.
I know I’m comparing two completely different systems here; both with their own goals. However, both are relatively minimalist in their approach with included software. That Ubuntu core I’ve come to love is a wee bit hefty. Even Lubuntu which I lived in for awhile had more packages.
This is not a balanced comparison, both systems are not stock installations. Solus is sporting Steam while POP_OS! is my WordPress development rig. Still I was surprised how much Ubuntu’s core has grown over the years.
